Amalgamated Properties of Rhodesia Ltd went into voluntary administration 29 July 1913 and was reconstructed as Amalgamated Properties of Rhodesia (1913) Ltd. Shareholders were entitled to 1 new share of 4s. in the new company for each share of 5s held.

The new company again entered voluntary administration on 9 July 1917 and was reconstructed as Rhodesia Exploration Co Ltd. Shareholders were entitled to 1 new share of 3s. in the new company for each share of 4s held. The final meeting was registered  15 July 1919.

The assets that were overtaken include 1,526,386 acres of land in Rhodesia, 3741 mining claims, 101 town stands, an interest in Sauer’s buildings in Johannesburg, sundry interests in Transvaal and other share interests.

The company went into voluntary administration 29 July 1913 and reconstructed as Amalgamated Properties of Rhodesia (1913) Ltd. Shareholders were entitled to 1 new share of 4s. in the new company for each share of 5s held. The final meeting was registered 22 February 1918.

The Rhodesia Exploration and Development Co Ltd was registered on 12 January 1895 to acquire the undertaking of the Rhodesia Exploration and Development Syndicate Ltd. In 1897 the assets of the South African Investors’ Syndicate Ltd were purchased for 6,000 fully paid shares. The company also acquired the agency business carried on by the Goldfields of Matabeleland Ltd in Rhodesia.

In 1903, the company assets of the Filabusi (Charterland) Goldfields Ltd were purchased for 1000 shares. In 1906 the company decided to extend its operations outside of Africa. In 1910, the following undertakings were acquired:

  • Rhodesian Banket Co Ltd
  • Etna Development Co Ltd
  • Rhodesian Abercorn Shamva Trust Co Ltd
  • Gold Schists of Rhodesia Ltd
  • F S A Syndicate Ltd (absorbed)
  • L & J Syndicate Ltd (absorbed)
  • London and Johannesburg Trust Ltd (absorbed)

By 1911, the company had large share interests in a number of mines, held 3,400 mining claims, about 640,000 acres of land, and stands in Bulawayo, Salisbury and Tati.

The company was dissolved in 1916.

Rhodesian Gold Trust Ltd was registered in 1896 and reorganised into a company of the same name in 1900. Shareholders were entitled to 1 share of £1 (credited with 16s. paid) in the new company for each £1 paid.

The new company was registered in 1900. It went into voluntary liquidation 31 July, 1903 with the undertaking and assets acquired by Bulawayo and General Exploration Co Ltd in which company shareholders were entitled to 1 share of £1 for every five shares of £1 held. The company’s final meeting was 3 August 1906.

It appears they may have associated with the Brand Grey Syndicate with whom they used their properties.

Its undertakings became acquired by the Amalgamated Properties of Rhodesia Ltd in 1909.

Vubachikwe Mine is located in the province of Matabeleland SouthZimbabwe. It is located about 8 km north-west of Gwanda. Vubachikwe and Blanket Mines form part of the Sabiwa group of mines. A village with the same name acts as the residential and commercial centre for the employees of the Vubachikwe gold mine.

In 2012 Duration Gold, owned by Clarity Capital and owners of the Vubachikwe Mine refused to take part in the Gwanda Community Share Ownership Trust launched by President Robert Mugabe. As part of the refusal, there was a move for the company’s licence to be cancelled.
