The APS show is scheduled for August 20-22 at the APS Auction at the DeVos Place Convention Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The auction will be held in 3 afternoon and evening sessions consisting of 3234 lots.

The 1st session on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. will contain 1135 lots with Texas postal history, and Foreign and British Commonwealth singles. It will begin with over 100 lots of Texas Postal History from the “Vince King” exhibits, extensive China with better P.R.C., the “Alvaro Garcia” Cuba exhibit collection, better Zeppelin flights, extensive Rhodesia from the “Sundback” collection with strong “Double Heads” and “Admirals”, Italian Social Republic stamps and covers, Japan with Karl Lewis covers, Transjordan, and Great Britain.

The 2nd session on Friday at 3:00 p.m. will contain 1250 U.S. lots highlighted by Presidential Autographs including George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, an 1882 5¢ Garfield exhibit, Scott #222 never hinged, grade 98, Scott #554d used sound with PF cert., 1939 Baseball FDC collection, very rare (1 of 2 flown) 1968 missile covers, Scott #R188 “Persian Rug”, Confederate States, Possessions with better Cuba including #226A Type II used with cert. (unique?)

The 3rd session on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. will conclude with 847 U.S. and Worldwide Collections. The U.S. “Collections & Various” of of over 230 lots begins with 5 lots estimated at $10,000+, “Postage and Modern Collections”, grouping of “Back-of-the-Book”, with a separate Revenue section, “Possessions”, “Postal History” lots, “First Day and Cachet Maker”, “Postcards” and an “Ephemera” section. This will be followed by 150 Commonwealth country and general collections with Great Britain, Australia, and Canada & Provinces, 350 Foreign country and general collections highlighted by Austria, China with P.R.C., Cuba, Germany with postal history, Japan, an Italian Social Republic collection estimated at $20,000-$25,000, 100+ Worldwide collections, a Topical section, and a Postal History section including an ongoing Internet business for sale estimated at $35,000-45,000.

This sale offers a multitude of wonderful items. The sale commences with a selection of the Rhodesia Admiral values used in the country and continues with a range of the George V issue including artists drawings, die proofs, etc. and with the 1935 Silver Jubilee issue die proofs of the frames. The top highlight of the sale is the unique George VI 1½d. red corner block of twelve containing four pairs imperforate between, a remarkable showpiece. The Queen Elizabeth includes the 1953 6d. with watermark inverted mint and used, a wide range of the 1963 Arms issue varieties and concludes with a selection of airmail covers.

Rhodesia Double Head Issue from the Vestey Collection

This remarkable sale is the second in the Lord Vestey series of auctions that feature Rhodesia. This sale devoted to the lovely Double Head issue is packed with fabulous blocks and single item rarities from the wealth of printings and shades associated with the issue.

Items of note include the ½d. pair and 1d. block of eight imperforate between, ½d. imperforate pair and block of six, 3d. RSC “G” corner block of four, 4d. RSC “D” block of ten and a single, 5d. lake-brown and green, 6d. RSC “C”, 8d. black and purple corner block of four and single, wonderful high values with 7/6d. RSC “C” block of eight and the £1 error of colour unique corner block of four with gash in ear.

There then follows a fine array of the perf. 15, combined perfs. and perf. 13½ printings. An outstanding offering for the specialist.

Rhodesia Featuring Arms and Admiral Issues from the Vestey Collection

The Vestey collection of Rhodesia Arms and Admiral issues is the first in a series of ten auctions to be conducted by Spink over the next eighteen months. This auction commences with wonderful examples of the 1892 Large Arms issue, the 1896 on Cape unique 4d. pair with “COMPANY” omitted, 1898-1908 Large Arms issue high value blocks and the 1905 Victoria Falls 1/- strip of three imperforate between. The main section of the sale is devoted to the Admiral issue with two unique essays, 2½d. and 6d. colour trials and a wonderful array of the issued stamps with a wonderful group of blocks and an outstanding selection of imperforate between varieties, most of which have not been seen since the Gibbs sale of 1988. We are assured of an extremely competitive day for these popular stamps.
