Salisbury Attains City Status
3rd May, 1935
On 3rd May, 1935 the Municipality of Salisbury attained city status and became the City of Salisbury. The move from municipality to city was in reaction to the Land Apportionment Act of 1930 which gave the white minority nearly half the nation’s land and created tribal trust lands for the African majority on the remainder.
