Rosslyn Safaris

Rosslyn Safaris is the oldest-established hunting safari company in Zimbabwe. Originally it was a pioneering game ranch in the famed big game area of Matetsi, near Victoria Falls where Peter & Carole Johnstone turned around an unprofitable cattle and crop farm to become an internationally known wildlife management and hunting area.

Peter and Carole met at the Matetsi railway siding in 1967 and were married in 1969. Ten days after their wedding they had their first client.

Following a government report into the viability of cattle ranching in the Matetsi area; the 1st January 1974 saw the entire district turned to game hunting by the Rhodesian Government. In recognition of his capability Peter was given his Professional Hunters licence when the first licences were officially launched by the government.

In early 1997 Peter & Carole moved the remainder of their hunting operation from Matetsi to Cawston Block, near Bulawayo, which they had already been operating for some years. Cawston Block was acquired in 1987 in poor condition. Following good rains and an intensive wildlife restocking program it now has an enviable collection of plains game.

Carole passed away in July 2008.  Their youngest daughter Juliet, returned in 2011 from her travels around the world to join Rosslyn Safaris in capacity as joint Director with Peter.
