In 1903 a Mr. Preece commenced trading as Caxton Printing Works at premises in Seventh Avenue (renamed Selborne Avenue in 1906), between Main and Abercorn Streets, Bulawayo.
A few years later, the trading name was changed to Preece & Mackenzie plus a move to new premises in Abercorn Street (between Selborne and 8th Avenues), Bulawayo. Preece and MacKenzie were booksellers, stationers and printers.
For a brief period (c.1911), the trading name changed to Preece & Harrison but reverted to Preece & Mackenzie thereafter. Mr. Preece remained sole proprietor throughout those changes and sold the business in 1934.
