Francis Sidney Dart

Francis Sidney Dart was born in Oberlin, Ohio in May 1882 to Mary T. (Leonard) and Francis Henry Dart – both associated with Oberlin College.  He graduated from Oberlin 1910.  After a short period of teaching, he married Clara Isabel Miller in July 1911 and in the same year they travelled to Africa as missionaries with the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions – first to Mount Selinda Mission in Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) and later in Angola.

At Mount Selinda, Mr. Dart was in charge of the Industrial Department and boy’s boarding department. The Darts transferred to Dondi Mission in Angola (“West Africa Mission”) in 1917, following a furlough, 1915-16.

They returned home in the 1930’s, moving to Claremont, California in 1948.  Mr. Dart died in Claremont November 1952.
