Clara Isabel Dart
1881-1975
Clara Isabel Miller was born September 1881, Springfield, Massachusetts to Elliot S. Miller and Sarah F. Northrop. She was graduated from Mt. Holyoke college 1904 and then taught science at Talladega College where she met her husband, Francis Sidney Dart.
In 1911, the Miller married dart and the pair went to Africa as missionaries with the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions – first to Mount Selinda Mission in Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) and later in Angola.
At Mount Selinda, Mrs. Dart was mission secretary, doing translation work and “work for women.” The Darts transferred to Dondi Mission in Angola (“West Africa Mission”) in 1917, following a furlough, 1915-16.
The Darts returned home in the 1930’s, moving to Claremont, California in 1948. Mrs. Dart died in Claremont December 1975.
