Tobias (Teddy) Palca was a Jewish immigrant from Poland. On July 5th, 1911, he married Esther Farber. The Palca family were responsible for a number of mining discoveries in Rhodesia. Tobias Palca, along with Robert Aserman, is named as placing the first peg at Lonely Mine – cited as one of the most promising mines of its day.
He eventually opened a tobacconist store in the Hepsworth’s Bulding in Bulawayo where he sold various cigarettes and fancy goods including imported Havana cigars. The Palca family were friends with Michael Pevsner, a leading tobacco grower owning the Glensville Estate outside of Bulwayo.
