Rhodesian Study Circle: Memoir 20 – The Postage Stamps of British Central Africa

Rhodesian Study Circle

The Postage Stamps of British Central Africa

The Postage Stamps of British Central Africa by Brian Coop, with contributions by Alan Drysdall, Chris Moffat and Mark Ladd.  Memoir 20 of the Rhodesia Study Circle; 152 pages with illustrations in colour.  Photocopied on A4 with card and transparent plastic covers, spiral bound.

This Memoir provides an accessible update to the stamp issues of British Central Africa which existed for only 16 years between 1891 and 1907 before becoming Nyasaland, now Malawi.  During that time it produced an overprint, (on the BSAC issue), 4 definitive issues and at least 3 provisionals some of which have been little studied.  The Memoir seeks to look at all these more closely drawing on the work of Hillman, De Robeck and Gerald Simpson, providing a historical perspective to the issues and adding much original research.  It has drawn extensively on the De La Rue Correspondence and Photographic Record at The National Postal Museum and Archive, looking at the essays proofs and colour trials culminating in a comprehensive listing of this important aspect of the stamps.
