RSC DIAMOND JUBLILEE CAPE TOWN - OCTOBER 2008 Plans to hold the Society’s 60th Anniversary celebrations in Cape Town in 2008 are already at an advanced stage and the event promises to offer those Members who attend a most rewarding experience which will hopefully surpass the excellent programme arranged for the RSC’s memorable Golden Anniversary which was held in Zimbabwe in 1998. The Steering Committee have chosen ‘Cecil John Rhodes Cape Town influence on Rhodesia’ as the THEME for the event and a number of interesting tours embracing many of the sites where Rhodes is still remembered today will be included in the itinerary that is being put together. The dates for the Event have been confirmed:
From 12:00 on Friday 31st October – After lunch on Monday 3rd November 2008.
From Tuesday 4th to Friday 7th inclusive. Apart from Rhodes Memorial, Groote Schuur which was Rhodes Official Residence, Rhodes Cottage, Rust-en-Vrede, etc., there are many other interesting places to whet ones appetite in Cape Town which is perhaps South Africa’s premier holiday destination. In addition to the many wonderful drives and scenery on offer visitors will also be able to visit Robben Island, Table Mountain, Signal Hill and the noon day gun, the Winelands, Cape Point, Kirstenbosch Gardens and of course the magnificent Waterfront on the docks. Up market B&B and Self catering accommodation at economical rates, most of which is within walking distance of the venue, has been organised on a first come basis. We can also cater for those attendees who wish to stay in a Hotel. If you are thinking about attending the event next year please let us know so that we can get an idea of how many guests we are likely to expect. More details can be obtained on request from: -
