Art Flooring Co. (PVT) Ltd

Salisbury

Art Flooring Co. (Pvt) Ltd was a parquet factory established in 1959 by the Swiss brothers Kurt and Paul Meyer in Salisbury, Rhodesia.

Kurt Meyer was a middle school teacher and, for a time, rector at the Swiss School of Cairo, Egypt, and later at Swissair. Paul worked for a few years at a palm oil plantation in the Belgian Congo and then three years at Swiss sisal plantation in Tanganyika.

In 1963, Kurt returned to Switzerland. Paul, a successful businessman, continued to run Art Flooring through the difficult years after 1965 with the assistance of managing director, fellow Swiss, Paul Kruter.

The business was taken over by Dunlop in 1972. Paul returned to Switzerland where he was the head of his father’s wood business. Kurt Meyer died in 1976.
