The first regular airmail from the UK to Australia left on 8th December, 1934 and arrived in Sydney on 21st December 21. The service was shared between Imperial Airways and Q.A.N.T.A.S. Letters for New Zealand were sent on by sea via the Orient Line’s Oronsay.
